Before we dive into this week's newsletter, I wanted to share a quick look at what YOUR Texas 14th District Congressman was working on in Washington this week:

• Proudly voted YES on passage of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Security Appropriations Bill, including the SAVE America Act to help strengthen election integrity and protect the voice of American citizens.
• Earned the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 2026 Hero of Main Street Award for supporting legislation that strengthens retailers, small businesses, and local economies.
• Appeared on Real America's Voice to discuss Reconciliation 3.0, securing funding for our veterans, the Supreme Court's request for additional security funding, and the Sunshine Protection Act.
• Participated in House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Environment Markups focused on expanding nuclear energy, cutting burdensome regulations, and advancing American energy dominance.

This week, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act, legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent nationwide. If this bill becomes law, states that currently observe daylight saving time would remain on that time year-round, eliminating the need to "spring forward" in March and "fall back" in November. States that already opt out of daylight saving time, like Arizona and Hawaii, would continue under their current system.

For decades, Americans have adjusted their schedules twice a year to account for the clock changes. The Sunshine Protection Act aims to bring consistency by keeping one time standard in place year-round, providing families, workers, schools, and businesses with greater certainty and eliminating the disruption that comes with changing the clocks every spring and fall. The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

On Wednesday, I was honored to attend the Retail Advocates Summit and receive the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 2026 Hero of Main Street Award. This award recognizes Members of Congress who have championed legislation that supports retailers, small businesses, and local economies.

Retail is one of the driving forces behind our economy, and I see that firsthand every day throughout the great 14th Congressional District of Texas. Hardworking business owners, employees, and families keep our economy moving and help our communities thrive.

As part of the summit, I had the opportunity to meet with retailers, innovators, and small business owners who once again proved just how vital the retail industry is to our nation's success. I understand the impact of small businesses not only as a former small business owner, but as a consumer as well. That's why I was proud to support the key pieces of legislation that earned this award:

• One Big Beautiful Bill:
  • Makes pro-growth tax policies permanent, including the 21% corporate tax rate, immediate R&D expensing, bonus depreciation, and tax relief for small businesses and entrepreneurs.
• FY2025 Budget Resolution:
  • Establishes a long-term federal budget framework focused on controlling spending, reducing deficits, and promoting fiscal responsibility.
• Combating Organized Retail Crime Act:
  • Strengthens federal efforts to crack down on organized retail theft, target criminal networks, and protect businesses and consumers.
• Faster Labor Contracts Act:
  • Creates a structured process to help employers and newly formed unions reach first-contract agreements more efficiently.
• Credit Card Competition Act:
  • Increases competition among credit card payment networks, gives merchants more processing options, and helps lower transaction costs.

I am grateful to the National Retail Federation for this recognition and will continue fighting for policies that cut unnecessary regulations, support small businesses, strengthen our economy, and allow entrepreneurs to grow and succeed.

When America's retailers succeed, America's communities win. I will always stand with the hardworking job creators, small business owners, and families who keep our economy moving forward!

The Texas summer heat is still here, and so is Team Weber showing up for YOU every single day!

We kicked off the week in Texas City, partnering with the Veterans of Galveston County for their Monthly Veteran Food Distribution. It was an honor to help serve the men and women who answered the call to defend our freedoms and protect the greatest nation on God's green earth.

In Nederland, Team Weber attended the Nederland EDC Emergency Management Workshop, where we learned valuable skills that can make a real difference when disaster strikes. From preparing communities before an emergency to responding effectively during a crisis and helping families recover afterward, preparedness saves lives. As I've always said, it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Team Weber wrapped up the week in Galveston at the EmpowerYOU: Mind, Body, and Spirit Luncheon hosted by the Galveston Chamber and UTMB. The event had opportunities for the attendees to learn, ask questions, and gain practical tools to improve their overall well-being. Dr. Ashley Eng led a thoughtful discussion on both physical and mental health, encouraging folks to take charge of their health and invest in their future.
