We’ve had hundreds of folks call in with questions about Elon Musk’s leadership role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Here is my response:
One of the topline priorities of the Trump Administration is to identify and eliminate the rampant waste, fraud, and abuse within various government programs and agencies. Examples of this unchecked spending have already been found in agencies like the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Ridiculous funding initiatives such as $47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia, $2.5 million for electric vehicles in Vietnam, and $2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala were revealed in recent reports about USAID’s funding. These reports are concerning, as they speak to the more significant problem of unbridled spending within the federal government, something DOGE was explicitly created to eradicate and something I will always fight to combat as your representative.
President Trump, by mandate of the American people and by the authorities granted to him in Article II of the Constitution, specifically appointed Elon Musk as the individual in charge of the DOGE, and, by the President’s order, he is responsible for conducting audits and analyses of these facets of government to allow for more efficiency in service provision, reduced waste, and better governance. As a staunch defender of the Constitution, I support President Trump’s push to rid our government of the wasteful and fraudulent spending that has allowed our once-great departments and agencies to descend into bloated near uselessness.
On his first day in office, President Trump legally integrated DOGE into the federal government by way of an executive order renaming the U.S. Digital Service as the U.S. DOGE Service (USDS). Fully authorized under the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), USDS will enhance government productivity and ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly. Each executive agency’s DOGE Team works in coordination with agency heads in order to ensure the implementation of Trump’s DOGE agenda. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has already approved DOGE’s lawful access to unclassified records and systems to facilitate this integration.
Unfortunately, various political pundits and elected officials determined to undermine President Trump’s agenda have been spreading false claims about DOGE and Elon Musk’s role as the individual charged with leading this new initiative. Per the Trump Administration, Elon Musk has been classified as a “special government employee,” which grants him very specific authorities as it pertains to his role in the Executive Branch. A Special Government Employee (SGE), as defined in Section 202 of Title 18 of the United States Code, refers to an individual who the president appoints to perform specific duties that allow them to execute the priorities of the administration for a limited period of time. As an SGE, Elon Musk does not have unauthorized access to individuals’ private information, a false narrative the media has perpetuated. Additionally, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Mr. Musk or anyone involved in DOGE has illegally accessed anyone’s sensitive information to advance any form of agenda.
The anti-Trump media apparatus has done the American people a disservice by spreading these false claims, stoking fear and confusion among those across the country. As your voice in Congress, I will always strive to provide my constituents with clarity and, most importantly, the truth about the events that directly impact you and our great nation.
Additionally, to ensure proper legislative oversight of these efforts, I am proud to serve as a member of the new DOGE Caucus in Congress. As a member of this caucus, I fully support this initiative, President Trump’s vision for the federal government, and Mr. Musk’s efforts to slash inefficiency in our departments and agencies. This caucus will work alongside President Trump to introduce reforms that streamline government operations, eliminate inefficiencies, and restore fiscal responsibility in Washington. The American people deserve a government that optimally allocates their tax dollars, representing Main Street interests over those of organizations and individuals intent on chipping away at the bedrock of fundamental values that allow our country to prosper.

President Donald J. Trump is taking bold action to tackle the root causes of America’s health crisis. This week, he signed an Executive Order establishing the Make America Healthy Again Commission, chaired by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This commission will investigate the alarming rise in chronic diseases—especially among children—and work to restore trust in our healthcare system. A Plan for a Healthier AmericaThe Commission will begin by producing: ✅ A 100-day assessment of what is driving the surge in childhood chronic diseases, including international comparisons. ✅ A 180-day strategy outlining solutions to improve the health of America’s children. Four Key Policy Goals:🔹 Transparency & Accountability – Open-source data and strict conflict-of-interest rules in federally funded health research. 🔹 Root-Cause Research – Prioritizing gold-standard studies on why Americans are getting sicker. 🔹 Healthy Food for All – Partnering with farmers to ensure our food is nutritious, abundant, and affordable. 🔹 Expanded Treatment Options – Supporting lifestyle-based disease prevention and flexible health coverage. A Focus on Prevention, Not Just TreatmentPresident Trump knows that too much of our healthcare system focuses on treating chronic diseases rather than preventing them. This Commission will work to shift that focus and ensure every American has the opportunity to live a healthier life. Now, we want to hear from you!

Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect our communities. Yet, when tragedy strikes, too many officers and their families are left waiting—sometimes for years—for the benefits they rightfully deserve. That’s why I’ve joined forces with Sen. Ted Cruz to introduce the Officer John Barnes Act, named after the brave officer who was wounded while responding to the Santa Fe High School shooting in 2018.
This bill is about accountability and respect. It forces the Department of Justice to streamline the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits (PSOB) Program so that families of fallen and injured officers aren’t left in limbo. Officer Barnes and his family have been waiting over seven years for a determination—that’s unacceptable. We owe it to our men and women in blue to fix this broken system.
The federal bureaucracy is out of control, and it has real consequences for the people it’s supposed to serve. It’s bad enough when Washington delays routine paperwork, but when that red tape keeps injured heroes and grieving families from receiving the support they are owed, that’s a disgrace. A government that can move mountains to fund pet projects and foreign aid shouldn’t take seven years to make a simple determination for an officer who was wounded in the line of duty.
The Officer John Barnes Act will cut through this inefficiency by requiring the DOJ to issue a determination on benefit claims within 270 days—no more endless waiting, no more bureaucratic nightmares. If the government can’t meet that deadline, it has to answer for it.
I’m proud to have the support of my Texas colleagues—Reps. Brian Babin, Dan Crenshaw, Troy Nehls, and Brandon Gill—on this important legislation. Law enforcement officers should never have to fight red tape to get the benefits they’ve earned. It’s time to stand up for those who stand up for us.

On December 7, 2022, Border Patrol Agent Raul Gonzalez, Jr., tragically lost his life in the line of duty while pursuing illegal immigrants fleeing capture near Mission, Texas. His sacrifice is a sobering reminder of the dangers our law enforcement officers face daily as they work to secure our border.
High-speed chases involving illegal immigrants and human traffickers have claimed too many innocent lives—whether it’s Americans struck by reckless drivers, migrants being smuggled by cartels, or law enforcement officers making the ultimate sacrifice. Enough is enough.
That’s why House Republicans are taking action. This week, we passed the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, to ensure there are real consequences for illegal immigrants who endanger American lives. This legislation creates new criminal offenses for fleeing law enforcement within 100 miles of the southern border, imposes serious jail time, and permanently bars offenders from ever obtaining legal status in the United States.
This bill sends a clear message: If you break our laws, endanger American citizens, and disrespect those who risk their lives to uphold our sovereignty, you will be held accountable. House Republicans stand with our Border Patrol, our law enforcement, and the rule of law.
Agent Raul Gonzalez, Jr. gave his life to protect our nation—we owe it to him to fight for policies that ensure no more lives are needlessly lost.

This week, I took to the House floor to emphasize a critical issue that affects every American—grid reliability. Our nation’s economy, security, and way of life depend on a stable, affordable, and resilient energy system. Yet, that system has been under attack by reckless policies that prioritize unreliable energy over what actually works.
Here’s the truth: fossil fuels and nuclear power are the backbone of our energy grid—natural gas alone supplies over 43% of our electricity. But radical regulations and premature plant shutdowns have put our entire grid at risk. The nation’s largest grid operator, PJM, warns that up to 30% of its power generation could retire by 2030, even as demand is set to rise by 40% in the next 15 years. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Thankfully, with President Trump back in office, we have leadership committed to reversing this dangerous course. His administration is working to expand domestic energy production, cut unnecessary regulations, and ensure our grid remains strong and resilient. That means building more pipelines, embracing nuclear energy, and rejecting expensive mandates that punish hardworking Americans.
As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I’m fighting to harden our grid against cyber threats, supply chain disruptions, and government overreach. America needs energy security, not rolling blackouts—and I will continue working to ensure we have a grid that powers our nation, not political agendas.
