The Schumer Shutdown Hits Day 10 It’s been ten days since the start of the Schumer Shutdown when Senate Democrats slammed the brakes on your government. Three weeks ago the House did its job. We passed a clean 94-page continuing resolution (CR) ELEVEN days before the deadline to keep the government open through November 21. The same bill Democrats supported just six months ago. Since then, Senate Democrats have voted six times to keep the government closed. Six times they’ve chosen politics over the people they represent. Meanwhile, Americans are paying the price. Even though essential services continue, many federal employees have been furloughed and certain operations are slowing down. Here in Texas alone, more than 218,000 federal workers could be without pay. Our state’s economy takes a $1.4 billion hit every week this shutdown drags on. And small businesses are seeing over $300 million in SBA loans delayed every month. President Trump has directed tariff revenue to temporarily cover programs like WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) to ensure that mothers and children continue to receive assistance while Congress works to reopen the government. However, programs like veterans’ benefits processing, passport renewals, small business services, and federal contracting are already experiencing delays This shutdown didn’t have to happen. House and Senate Republicans have done their jobs by passing a responsible funding bill that keeps the government open without new spending or partisan gimmicks. The Senate can end this TODAY by passing that same clean bill. Until then, I’ve asked that my own congressional pay be withheld. If Americans are feeling the effects of this shutdown, Members of Congress should too. The American people deserve a government that works for them, not one that plays politics with their livelihoods. Services That May Be Disrupted: National Parks, Museums, and Zoos: Some facilities are closed or operating with reduced staff. The Smithsonian network will be closed until further notice as of Sunday, October 13th, 2025.Passports & Visas: Processing continues but expect longer wait times, especially at offices inside federal buildings.IRS Services: Taxpayer assistance, audits, and refunds may experience delays.Disaster Relief: FEMA remains operational for emergency response, but long-term recovery projects are delayed.Medical Research: NIH has paused most new clinical trials and may limit new patient admissions.Small Business Loans: SBA has suspended most new loan approvals, though the Disaster Loan Program remains open.Housing Assistance: FHA and rental-assistance processing may be delayed.Social Security & SSI: Payments continue uninterrupted. Some services, such as benefit verification or overpayment resolution, may take longer.Medicare & Medicaid: Coverage and payments remain active, though call centers and administrative offices are working with limited staff.Veterans will continue receiving health care and benefits. Crisis lines and major VA programs remain open, though some regional offices and outreach services may close temporarily.Service members remain on duty, but pay could be delayed without additional legislation. On-base services, such as commissaries and child-care facilities, may reduce hours.

The Schumer Shutdown Hits Day 10

It’s been ten days since the start of the Schumer Shutdown when Senate Democrats slammed the brakes on your government.

However, programs like veterans’ benefits processing, passport renewals, small business services, and federal contracting are already experiencing delays

This shutdown didn’t have to happen.

Services That May Be Disrupted:

  • National Parks, Museums, and Zoos: Some facilities are closed or operating with reduced staff. The Smithsonian network will be closed until further notice as of Sunday, October 13th, 2025.
  • Passports & Visas: Processing continues but expect longer wait times, especially at offices inside federal buildings.
  • IRS Services: Taxpayer assistance, audits, and refunds may experience delays.
  • Disaster Relief: FEMA remains operational for emergency response, but long-term recovery projects are delayed.
  • Medical Research: NIH has paused most new clinical trials and may limit new patient admissions.
  • Small Business Loans: SBA has suspended most new loan approvals, though the Disaster Loan Program remains open.
  • Housing Assistance: FHA and rental-assistance processing may be delayed.
  • Social Security & SSI: Payments continue uninterrupted. Some services, such as benefit verification or overpayment resolution, may take longer.
  • Medicare & Medicaid: Coverage and payments remain active, though call centers and administrative offices are working with limited staff.
  • Veterans will continue receiving health care and benefits. Crisis lines and major VA programs remain open, though some regional offices and outreach services may close temporarily.
  • Service members remain on duty, but pay could be delayed without additional legislation. On-base services, such as commissaries and child-care facilities, may reduce hours.

Phase 1 of the Peace Plan: Peace Through Strength

t

Two years ago on October 7, 2023, Hamas unleashed pure evil on innocent men, women, and children. It was the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Now, President Donald J. Trump went to the table and brokered a HISTORIC peace deal between Israel and Hamas. This is peace through strength in real time.

Under Phase One of the deal, a ceasefire is underway, and the remaining hostages are expected to be released within the next 72 hours. It’s the first real progress we’ve seen since that horrific October day.

This breakthrough is part of President Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan — a bold, detailed roadmap for lasting stability in the Middle East. The plan focuses on:

  • Ending and disarming Hamas of their arms and governance;
  • Rebuilding Gaza under regional oversight;
  • And establishing a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians with the goal of agreeing on a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

In just the last eight months, this leadership from the Trump Administration has helped deliver peace deals between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Cambodia and Thailand, Rwanda and the DRC, India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, and Egypt and Ethiopia.

And the American people are taking notice. This Monday, a poll showed 56% of Americans support President Trump’s peace plan. They know what strength looks like. They know the results when they see them.

As we mark this path toward peace, may we remember the victims, pray for the hostages still waiting to come home, and stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Israel!

Illegal Border Crossings at the Lowest Levels

b

For the first time in OVER FIVE DECADES, illegal crossings along our southern border have fallen to their lowest level since 1970.

And no. That didn’t just happen out of thin air.

Under President Donald J. Trump, Border Patrol recorded roughly 238,000 apprehensions this fiscal year. This is down from more than 2.2 MILLION under the Biden administration. That’s nearly a 90% drop in just one year.

How? We ended catch-and-release. We reinstated Remain in Mexico. We enforced the law. The very policies Texans have begged Washington to do for years.

Here at home, our state has been on the front lines of the border fight. From the Gulf Coast to El Paso, Texas law enforcement has carried the load, built the barriers, and stood in the gap when Washington looked the other way.

No more open-border policies. No more excuses. Just results.

Texans are safer. America is stronger. And our border is finally being secured the way it should’ve been all along.

We’re not done yet. We’re going to finish the wall, fix our border system, and make sure EVERY INCH of America’s border is protected.

A nation without borders isn’t a nation at all.

Team Weber hit the ground running across TX-14 this week by honoring service, meeting with local leaders, and celebrating the communities that keep Texas strong.

Rep. Weber was able to join Governor Greg Abbott and community leaders at the Golden Triangle Republican Women’s luncheon, where the Governor highlighted Texas’ unmatched progress from expanding school choice and investing in grid reliability to strengthening border security and disaster response.

Meanwhile, at the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership’s Political Protocol Committee, our office provided updates on Rep. Weber’s leadership to advance the Coastal Spine project by requesting $45 million in FY27 funding to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and on the local impacts of the ongoing federal shutdown on NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Even during a government shutdown, Team Weber continues to stay plugged in, fighting for Southeast Texas priorities and the people.
