Second Amendment

second amd

House Democrats decided they haven’t gone far enough when it comes to attacking Americans’ Second Amendment rights and once again are coming for our guns.

While Americans are facing the worst inflation, border, supply chain, drug overdose, and crime crises in recent history, Democrats’ top priority is trampling on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

Next week, House Democrats will vote to prohibit the sale, transfer, import and manufacture of hundreds of models of semi-automatic weapons –which account for 20 million of the 432 million privately owned guns in the U.S.

So not only do Democrats want to defund the police during a historic crime wave, at the same time, they want to take away your right to defend yourself. This goes beyond criminalizing legal gun ownership, Democrats have made clear time and time again that they are on the side of criminals.

In New York City, a bodega worker who fought back against a violent assault has now been charged with murder. In California, a teenager who purposely rammed into a mother and her young child in a stroller with his car was only sentenced to a 5-month probation camp.

Ensuring American families feel safe in their communities is a top priority for House Republicans when we take back the majority.

The House Democrats are considering trying to pass a series of police funding bills and an assault weapons ban next week. I want to know your thoughts on banning assault weapons.

Invasion at our southern border

border

This week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently made the bold declaration that the southern border “is secure”. But in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams says the “rapidly growing” number of illegal immigrants is beginning to severely strain resources in his city’s shelters. The fact of the matter is that our border is not “secure” – it’s open.

Last month there were 207,416 border encounters, the fourth consecutive month over 200,000 encounters.

There have also been over three million known illegal border encounters, so far, under the Biden-Harris administration – plus thousands of daily “got-aways” who evade apprehension.

Secretary Mayorkas’ claim is not only highly misleading, it is an insult to the border patrol agents who are overwhelmed and desperately trying to do their job despite the open borders agenda of the Biden administration.

    Brazoria County Hurricane Preparedness Expo

    hurricane expo

Thank you to everyone that joined us at our Hurricane Preparedness Expo and to all the incredible local officials, government agencies, and non-profits who came out and shared their knowledge with our community. We hope everyone who attended learned something new and can better prepare for a hurricane. Brazoria County is ready and prepared to serve the community.

It was a pleasure to have State Representative Mayes Middleton, County Judge Matt Sebesta, Constable David Thacker,  Sheriff Bo Stallman, Mayor Paul Horn, Councilman Joel Castro, Mayor Jason Perez, Mayor Suzanne Powell, Mayor Gerald Roznovsky, and Mayor Gregg Bisso join us on Saturday.

Reminder: June 1st marked the beginning of the 2022 hurricane season, and in southeast Texas, we know the drill:

    • Start preparing early for a hurricane.
    • Stock up your house and car with supplies like emergency food, water, and medical supplies.
    • Make a family disaster plan, and ensure that children are aware of this as well.
    • Never ignore an evacuation order.
    • Be alert for local guidance about updated information on evacuations and shelters.
    • Print important documents (i.e. emergency phone numbers, insurance information).  Power outages during and after a natural disaster can prevent you from accessing information online when you need it most.

Below are some important emergency phone numbers in case of a disaster:

    FEMA Disaster Assistance 1-800-621-3362

Texas Department of Emergency Management (512) 424-2208

Brazoria County Emergency Management (979) 864-1201

Galveston County Emergency Management (281) 309-5002

Jefferson County Emergency Management (409) 835-8757

You can’t stop a storm from coming, but you can take steps now to protect yourself and your family.  For additional hurricane tips and resources, visit the National Weather Service.

    Household Inflation Cost in Texas

    texas inflation

Texans are facing the highest inflation rates in decades, making it harder for them to afford everyday goods and more expensive to raise their families. One year ago today, Joe Biden told the American people that inflation was “temporary” after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased to 5.4%. Since then, inflation has skyrocketed to 9.1% – the highest rate in over 40 years.  Biden was wrong about inflation, just as he has been about every economic decision since becoming President. Biden and House Democrats own America’s inflation crisis, no one else.

Families in Texas are facing the highest inflation rates, with prices today 14.9 percent higher than in January 2021

Due to a combination of higher inflation rates and higher average household spending, inflation is imposing the greatest monthly costs on families in Texas at $755. Annualized, these families are facing inflation costs of $9,065 over the next year, respectively.

Here are 7 steps that Congress must take to combat inflation:

    1) Rein in Excessive Government Spending
    2) Unleash American Energy Production
    3) Globally End COVID-19 Restrictions
    4) Increase Labor Supply and productivity
    5) Address Supply Chain Issues
    6) Pro-Growth Tax Policy
    7) Impose Regulatory Restraint
