SAVE Act Congress is heading back into session next week, and we’ll be fighting to secure our elections. Speaker Mike Johnson has made it clear – protecting the integrity of our vote is a priority. He announced that he will attach the SAVE Act to the upcoming government funding bill, requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections. Illegal voting by noncitizens is a major issue that we can’t afford to ignore. And make no mistake – for the left, turning illegal immigrants into voters is a priority. Just last week, in an interview with Bill Maher, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi openly praised new benefits for illegal immigrants and expressed her desire to “move them to documented” status. Back in 2018, when Stacey Abrams ran for governor of Georgia, she famously declared that a “blue wave” would help her win, and let’s not forget her shocking words – “That blue wave is undocumented.” Now, the left and their media cheerleaders will smugly tell you, “Noncitizens can’t vote; it’s illegal!” Well, let’s be real – it’s also illegal to cross our border without going through a port of entry, but under the Biden administration, nearly 8 million people have done it anyway. They also conveniently ignore the fact that there’s no citizenship verification during voter registration. In other words, we’re not confirming the legal status of people who’ve already broken one law by entering illegally, leaving the door wide open for them to break another by voting. Senator Mike Lee hit the nail on the head when he said, “Sure, it’s already illegal for noncitizens to vote. It’s also illegal to sell alcohol to minors, and yet we still make folks show proof they’re 21. Why don’t we apply that same logic to voting?” Bottom line – the left is pulling out all the stops to block common-sense measures that would secure our elections and prevent fraud.

Around the District

Around the District

On Saturday, I had the honor of speaking at an event in Lake Jackson about the Future of Church and State in Times of Crisis. Thank you to Pastor Brad DuBose for hosting me, and to everyone who came to hear me discuss the importance of defending our Constitution and teaching our children values. I also had the pleasure of attending the "Conversation & Coffee" event with the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce, Bay Area Houston Transportation Partnership (BayTran), and Pearland Chamber of Commerce. It was great to catch up with friends and hear from my colleague, Rep. Troy Nehls. I also stopped by the Pachyderm Meeting in Galveston!

Today, I joined the Unbound Now Empower Freedom Brunch, where I offered the closing prayer. Unbound Now supports survivors and equips communities to fight human trafficking in the United States and around the world.

This week, Team Weber attended the Seaside Senior Expo Healthcare Resource Fair in Galveston. They also attended the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce's "State of the District" meeting, where they heard from Thad Roher, Superintendent of Friendswood ISD. Yesterday, they attended Lamar Institute of Technology's "Salute to Real American Heroes" First Responders Event.

App Challenge

We are pleased to announce that the Congressional App Challenge (CAC), a competition designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding, will be hosting our annual coding competition this year. Students are encouraged to register online and submit their app by October 24th.

Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, this nationwide effort allows students to compete against their peers by creating an application (also known as an “app”) for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, raspberry Pi or other devices. We accept any programming language, such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code." The Challenge is designed to promote innovation and engagement in computer science.

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students in the 14th Congressional District of Texas. Students entering the competition must submit their app to CongressionalAppChallenge.us during the Competition Submission Period through October 24th, 2024.

The winner from the 14th Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us. The winning app will also be eligible to be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.

For more information, please visit the official Congressional App Challenge website at CongressionalAppChallenge.us, email StudentSupport@CongressionalAppChallenge.us, or contact Christine Thigpen in the Lake Jackson Office (979-285-0231).
