Poll Question of the Week

Since the barbaric October 7 terrorist attacks committed by Hamas against Israel that claimed the lives of over 1,200 Israelis and was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust, Israel has been under constant threat. Last month, Iran fired over 300 missiles and drones at Israel in an unprecedented and unjustified attack, and Hamas continues to wage war on Israel’s right to exist.

On Saturday, April 20, the House passed legislation to replenish Israel’s critical defensive systems, including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling, and provide additional weapons and munitions to Israel for their continued defense from terrorist groups and hostile actors in the region – legislation that President Biden signed into law. Last week, however, President Biden threatened to withhold weapons and munitions from Israel if they entered Rafah, a major Hamas stronghold in Gaza, in order to appease radical leftists and pro-Palestine activists.

This is unacceptable. Israel is our greatest ally and friend, and military aid should be delivered without delay to support their defense and root out a terrorist organization that killed Israelis, killed Americans, and still holds around 130 hostages.

The House passed the Israel Security Assistance Support Act to condemn the Biden Administration’s dangerous hold on arms delivery to Israel, urges the swift delivery of defense articles and weapons, withholds funds from the Secretaries of Defense and State and the National Security Council until these articles are delivered, and supports Israel’s right to self-defense.

Do you think Joe Biden should be withholding weapons from Israel?

Around the District

Around the District

This week, Team Weber attended the Port Neches-Groves Spring football game and watched the 2023 State Champions receive their rings in a special ceremony. They presented a United States flag I had flown over the United States Capitol for the 5A State Championship. They also presented the Congressional Record from a speech I delivered on YOUR House Floor.

They attended the Golden Triangle Industrial Group, where they heard from the local community about jobs coming to the area. Then, they joined the SETX Regional Planning Commission Executive Committee Meeting, where Jefferson County Commissioner Cary Erickson was sworn in as Secretary. They were honored to join the Galveston County Peace Officer Memorial Service to honor 34 late officers and their families. We remember the courageous law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Brenda and I are praying for all those impacted by the crazy storm that pummeled Southeast Texas last night. The Office of Emergency Management is asking any individuals or businesses who sustained any damages to their property due to the storms to self-report it here >> Damage.tdem.texas.gov.

Information Regarding Pelican Island Bridge

Pelican Island Bridge

Information from the Unified Command, Joint Information Center established for Pelican Island Bridge Allision Response:

The Unified Command continues to respond to the incident that occurred on Wednesday at the Pelican Island Causeway when a break in a coupling caused the barge, MMLP 321, owned by Martin Marine, to allide with the Pelican Island Bridge.

The Texas Department of Transportation will be assessing the condition of the bridge Friday. The bridge will be intermittently closed to vehicles and foot traffic during repairs except for emergency services.

The allision resulted in an oil discharge from the barge, initially estimated at 1,000-2,000 gallons of vacuum gas oil (VGO) to enter the Galveston Ship Channel. The bridge, under the jurisdiction of Galveston County Navigation District No.1 (GCND1), was damaged. Residents and businesses on Pelican Island, including Texas A&M Galveston, were relocated and the bridge was reduced to outbound vehicular and foot traffic only.

The barge is no longer discharging product at this time.

Air monitoring commenced on Thursday and water quality monitoring is expected to begin on Friday, weather permitting.

To reduce spread of the spilled oil, more than 16,000 feet of protective boom has been placed in areas around Pelican Island, Swan Lake, and surrounding the damaged barge. U.S. Coast Guard and Texas General Land Office crews are assessing impacts on the west shoreline side of Pelican Island.

A Unified Command consisting of the responsible party, Martin Marine, the US Coast Guard, Texas General Land Office, and the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management has been established to address the incident.

The Unified Command’s priorities continue to be ensuring the safety of the public and responders, protecting the environment, stabilizing the incident, and safely restoring transportation infrastructure and commerce.
